Aequanimitas

In pursuit of imperturbability. Notes from beyond the clinic and lab.

Note from the editor

Welcome. I’m Pranab, a physician-scientist. My professional life is spent in the world of public health, data, and policy, tackling complex issues like infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance. It’s deeply rewarding, but it’s also all-consuming. That professional work has its own home, and this space is different. This is my antidote to a life lived only on that map. I’ve named this publication Aequanimitas after the Oslerian virtue of balance and imperturbability. Osler warned that a life of pure, unadulterated reason, a life lived only on the map, is a hollow and fragile thing. He was arguing for ballast. For a counterweight. For a practice that keeps you human, flexible, and whole. This blog is that practice. This is my “off duty” notebook, my personal practice for cultivating that “coolness of mind” under all circumstances. This is not a portfolio; it’s a process. It’s the place for the experimental, the personal, the un-peer-reviewed, the randomness. This is where you’ll find the creative writing, the cultural fragments, the half-formed ideas, and the hobbies. This is where I get to be a generalist, not a specialist. This is the sandbox, the “etcetera,” the “other.”
